10 Beauty Milestones Every Woman Should Achieve in Her 20’s
Make sure to accomplish all these before you hit the big 3-0
As a twentysomething, you’re probably at the top of your beauty game—your skin’s at its best, you know how to style your hair, and you’ve found your HG makeup products. But you still might be missing a couple of things—here are some of them:
- Know your skin type
Skin types aren’t as simple as they seem to be. You might assume you have oily skin because, well, your skin is oily, and you find yourself blotting away shine midday. But if your skin is oily in some parts and dry in others, then that might mean you have combination skin. Visit a dermatologist to find out your skin type and how to properly care for it.
- Add anti-aging products to your routine
It’s easier to prevent than to treat, after all! Even if you’re only in your 20s, invest in an anti-aging serum and eye cream to keep signs of aging at bay.
- Apply sunblock daily
PSA: Sunblock is not ONLY for the beach! We’re exposed to the sun’s harmful UV rays no matter where we are and what season it is (yes, even in winter). Traditional sunblocks may be thick and feel heavy on the skin—there are lightweight options in either a gel or spray formula that you can look into.
- Keep your nails neat
This doesn’t mean you have to get your nails done regularly! Just make sure that they are clean, filed, and an acceptable length (Read: not too long).
- Know your foundation shade
Your eyebrows may be flawless and your lipstick game is solid, but people might not notice the rest of your makeup if your base just doesn’t match your skin tone. Instead of relying on photos from the internet or the color on the packaging, make sure to swatch the foundation on your face, particularly on your jawline, to find the right shade.
- Know your undertone
This will help you know which shades of lipstick, blush, and even clothes will look good on you. Tip: Check the color of your veins. Green means you have a warm undertone, blue for a cool undertone, and both green and blue for a neutral undertone.
- Learn how to do your eyeliner
Even if you don’t use eyeliner daily, it will be super helpful to know how to apply it for nights out and special occasions.
- Properly cleanse your face daily
Nope, soap and water isn’t going to cut it. Whether or not you have makeup on, you need an oil cleanser or micellar water to take off the dirt and gunk on your face before using your facial wash.
- Have a go-to hair stylist
You know what they say: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. If you’re happy with the haircut and service of a specific stylist, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t keep coming back to them. If you have a go-to stylist, he or she would understand your hair more, and you are more likely to leave the salon with better hair each time.
- Find your signature scent
Just like your perfect MLBB shade, a perfume that will take you from day to night—and one that you will love all throughout—will make your beauty arsenal complete. You can choose from a variety of scents at Blackwater Women; they have clean and powdery (Flora in Tender Smile), fruity (Activ in So in Love), floral (Fame in Clarity), and other fragrances to choose from. Plus, they’re very affordable so you won’t hesitate to repurchase when your bottle runs out!
